Multi-county AVA north of the Central Coast (Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara…): Cabernet Sauvignon is the ruling red (~24%), followed by Chardonnay (~19%), old-vine Zinfandel (~10%), Merlot, Pinot Noir and Petite Sirah. Contrasting signature profiles — racy, fresh Pinot and Chardonnay along foggy maritime hills; bold, rustic Cabernet and Zin inland with intense blackberry, black cherry and spice. Bay breezes and fog moderate.
