Ward of the Paarl district (Western Cape, South Africa) on the north-western slopes of the Simonsberg, 50 km from Cape Town. Shiraz is the most-planted variety; Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Bordeaux blends with cedar and menthol notes; cooler-climate Pinotage more elegant than Paarl/Stellenbosch. Viognier, Marsanne, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay in mineral whites from the granitic soils. Distinctive granite outcrops; the elegance here contrasts with the generosity of broader Paarl.

Cradle of South African wine. Signature Chenin Blanc (Steen, 20%) in ample, fresh whites with notes of quince, yellow apple, honey and acacia flower, from crisp dry to sweet. Sharp, iodised Sauvignon Blanc (Walker Bay, Constantia), balanced Chardonnay. Reds: emblematic Pinotage with roasted aromas (coffee, plum, smoke), firm Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy Syrah.
