Discover the grape variety: Monemvasia

Recognized as being native to the Peloponnese in Greece, today very present in the Cyclades islands (Paros in particular and a little in Syros, Mykonos, Santorini, ...), in the island of Evia, ... . We can also meet it in Italy, in the United States, ... in France it is practically not known. It should not be confused with the multitude of white grape varieties belonging to the large Malvasia family. Indeed, DNA tests have never established any link of relationship. On the other hand, it is related to the Greek variety Athiri, which originated on the island of Santorini, and to the white Gouais.

The islands have a Long and influential winemaking history spanning thousands of years, but in the modern day are most famous for Santorini's Dry, minerally, white wines made from Assyrtico-based white wines made from Assyrtico. The Aegean Sea covers roughly 83,000 square miles (215,000 sq km) between the Southern coast of Greek Macedonia and Crete in the south. The word of the wine: Bordeaux barrel

Barrels of 220 to 225 litres. The toasting of the barrel to bend the staves (curved boards used to make the barrels) can vary according to the coopers and the demand. A gentle and slow toasting has little effect on the aromas. On the other hand, a strong toasting gives aromas of coffee or cocoa which will influence the taste of the wine. A wine barrel has already been aged for a year and has less impact on the wine than a new barrel.
