An intraspecific cross between the cardinal and the Beirut date tree - the latter also bears the synonyms afuz (or afus) ali or regina - obtained in 1964 by Victoria Lepadatu and Gheorghe Condei of the Horticultural Research Institute of Dragasani (Romania).
