Discover the grape variety: Carignan Gris

Lively, aromatic dry whites and pale rosés with a golden-to-salmon colour and a crisp, elegant palate; signature aromas of yellow fruits (peach, apricot), citrus, white flowers and Mediterranean notes. Original Mediterranean profile. Increasingly prized by Roussillon winemakers for small-batch, atypical cuvées. A grey-skinned mutation of Carignan, grown in small quantities in Languedoc-Roussillon, France.

The wine region of Upper Goulburn

Victorian GI in the north-east (GI 2003, 500–700 m on the Great Dividing Range, drained poor granitic soils, high-altitude continental climate with hot summers and large diurnal temperature ranges): Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc are signature king altitude whites — textured and crunchy with intense aromas preserved by cold nights, magnified taut acidity. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as generous reds on warmer sites. Cool-climate terroir.

The wine region of Victoria

Australian diversity from cool to temperate climate. Yarra Valley and Mornington: fine, silky Pinot Noir (cherry, raspberry, undergrowth), taut, mineral Chardonnay. Heathcote: structured Shiraz with black fruits, pepper and chocolate. Rutherglen, fortified capital: opulent sweet Topaque and Muscat (raisin, caramel, fig, roast notes).

The word of the wine: Oxidation

Alteration of the wine caused by prolonged contact with oxygen and resulting in a coppery colour with brown reflections and the appearance of typical aromas reminiscent of rancid nuts.
