The Château Haut-Brion winery, located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, is among the most eminent Bordeaux vineyards. Recently classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2020, the vineyard is built on a long history and a land revered for its ability to produce wines of exceptional quality. Château Haut-Brion covers 15.3 hectares of vineyards surrounding the main castle, which houses the headquarters and the farmhouse. The vines that cover the dry-stone terraces on the surface of the deep gravel are the oldest in Bordeaux, planted in 1525 by Jean de Pontac, making this the region's oldest vineyard. Their wines are produced from three grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot for the reds, and Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for the whites. Whether they are red or white, all the wines produced at Haut-Brion are always celebrated for their complexity, elegance and longevity. Château Haut-Brion remains entirely independent and operated by the de Pontac family, who still produce excellent wines. The vineyard planting density is high, allowing the maintenance of high quality through competition between the vines for nutrients and water. Particular care is given to the grape harvest, which must be manual and carefully handpicked to ensure that the best of the varieties is harvested to produce wines of remarkable quality. Château Haut-Brion continues its ancestral tradition of producing memorable wines marked by the imprint of this noble land. Haut-Brion wines are rated very highly by international critics. The wines are recognized for their unique character, combining power and finesse, and are widely considered masterpieces whose price is justified by the unique character and remarkable quality of the wines.
