The property was created in the first half of the 19th century by Jacques Durfort de Vivens, a descendant of a long line of Dutch winemakers. Its name was given in honor of one of the most important families of the region. The first classified growth of Château Durfort-Vivens is produced entirely from high quality cabernet sauvignon. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils from the finest vineyard plots, which the soil is rich in magnesium and limestone. The Château Durfort-Vivens has been under the management of the Gravet family since 1976. The family is responsible for both the production and the management of the vineyard.
