The Château Durfort-Vivens is a winery located in Margaux in the wine region of Bordeaux in France. It is located on the same route as the prestigious Château Margaux, by the Avenue de Château. The property was created in the first half of the 19th century by Jacques Durfort de Vivens, a descendant of a long line of Dutch winemakers. Its name was given in honor of one of the most important families of the region. The first classified growth of Château Durfort-Vivens is produced entirely from high quality cabernet sauvignon. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils from the finest vineyard plots, which the soil is rich in magnesium and limestone. The Château Durfort-Vivens has been under the management of the Gravet family since 1976. The family is responsible for both the production and the management of the vineyard. The Château Durfort-Vivens has become one of the most recognized names in the Margaux appellation. It also produces a second wine, Grand-Puy-Lacoste, which is the result of blending cabernet sauvignon with merlot and petit verdot. The wines produced at Château Durfort-Vivens are characterized by their complexity and their concentration of color. They are balanced and offer aromas of sweet spices, ripe fruit and subtle oak.
