The wine region of Cerro Chapeu
Wine zone of northern Uruguay (Rivera department, Brazilian border), ancient red sandy soils with exceptional drainage. Tannat is the signature red (half of all vines, old stocks up to 40 years): deep and concentrated with intense notes of blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, leather, cocoa and a spicy touch, firm tannins yet less austere than in Canelones thanks to the sand, generous flesh. Iconic cuvée Batoví T1 is the terroir benchmark.
The wine region of Rivera
Sub-region of northern Uruguay on the Brazilian border (Campagna), subtropical humid climate with long sunshine hours, deep draining red sandy soils. Tannat is the dominant signature red: structured with intense blackberry, plum, black cherry, tobacco, leather and a cocoa-spicy touch, firm tannins and full body. Cabernet Sauvignon as firm complement and Chardonnay as opulent white. Bodega Cerro Chapeu as flagship.
The word of the wine: Véraison
A phase in the vegetative cycle of the vine that takes place in summer, usually in August, when the grapes change colour from green to red (for reds) or yellow (for whites). This stage heralds the beginning of ripening.
