The Louis Michel & Sons Estate, located in Chablis in Burgundy, France, is one of the world's largest producers of dry white wines. The family property is governed by the Louis and Michel family for the fourth generation. The winery was founded in 1879 by Louis and Michel, and their passion for Chablis wine has been passed on to their descendants who grew up and were trained in the family's vineyards. The Estate produces unique dry white wines that reflect the original expression of the Chablis terroirs: the terroir being that of the small "village" of Chablis, as well as the Grand Cru and Premier Cru appellations of Chablis. Each wine is produced with meticulous attention to detail in order to capture and reflect each distinct terroir. Chablis dry wines are characterized by an aromatic floral bouquet, a creamy texture, and vibrant and chiselled tastes. The Louis Michel & Sons Estate also offers a variety of AOC Chablis: Chablis Grand Cru, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis. From the 5 Crus (Vaulignot, Vosgros, Vaillons, Mont de Milieu and Grenouilles), the Estate produces 5 unique cuvées: Leslie & Armand, Prestige cuvée, Les Clos, La Pierrière and La Frétille, reflecting the terroir and the complexity of the soils and climates. The Estate also offers guided tours, tastings, and even a gourmet restaurant on site, the "Manoir Restaurant Louis Michel & Sons". Visitors can explore the vineyards and the cellar, learn more about the family and their wine history, and enjoy spectacular views of the region and the surrounding landscapes. You can also buy wines directly from the property and attend tasting courses and workshops. There is also the possibility to participate in personalised sleeping and wine tasting programmes.

Discovering the wine region of Chablis

Chablis is a historic town and wine region in NorthCentralFrance. It produces light, Dry white wines, renowned for their minerality and lively Acidity. AOC Chablis wines are produced exclusively from the Chardonnay grape. The wines of Chablis are made in a rather different style from those produced elsewhere in Burgundy.

They are drier and fresher, rather than heavier and more Aromatic. Most basic Chablis is fermented and aged in stainless steel, with the use of oak barrels being more common for the top wines, although large used barrels are more likely to be used than New ones, and the wines spend less time in them than in Côte d'Or. The town and its vineyards are located a considerable distance (over 100 kilometers) northwest of the main wine regions of Burgundy, from the Côte de Nuits to the Maconnais. They are actually closer to Sancerre (Loire) and Les Riceys (southern Champagne) and to the city of Paris.

Discover the grape variety: Merlot noir

This grape variety most certainly originates from the Bordeaux region and is registered in the Official Catalogue of vine varieties, list A1. According to genetic analyses carried out in Montpellier (Hérault), it is the result of a cross between the magdeleine noire des Charentes and the cabernet franc. It should also be noted that it is the half-brother of the côt or malbec and that it is not the black form of the white merlot, but its resemblance reminds us that it is indeed a descendant.
