The wine region of Zala
Hungarian region in Zala county (south-west shore of Lake Balaton), ~2,200 ha on forest brown soils, temperate climate regulated by the lake. Olaszrizling is king in whites: dry and full with notes of bitter almond, green apple, citrus, herbs and a mineral touch, fresh acidity and a typically slightly bitter finish. Taut Chardonnay, aromatic Müller-Thurgau and fresh Zöld Veltelini in whites. Fruity Zweigelt (cherry, spices) and supple Kék Oportó in reds.
The wine region of Balaton
Hungarian region around the largest lake in Central Europe, 6 zones including volcanic Badacsony. Signature Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), Hungary's most planted grape: lively, mineral whites with signature notes of almond, citrus, green apple, white flowers and a herbaceous touch, a crisp finish - a typical thirst-quenching wine. Also round Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris), ample Chardonnay, rare native Kéknyelű. Basalt in the north, lakeside climate.
