Second-smallest AVA in Washington State (2009, 4,145 acres) within the Yakima Valley: vineyards since 1914. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay dominate — Cabernet deep with blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, firm tannins. Warm south slopes suit Mourvèdre and Cabernet; cooler north slopes grow Sauvignon, Riesling and Pinot Gris. Loess soils over Missoula Flood sediments, Cascades rain shadow, 7 in annual rainfall.
