The wine region of Snipes Mountain

Second-smallest AVA in Washington State (2009, 4,145 acres) within the Yakima Valley: vineyards since 1914. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay dominate — Cabernet deep with blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, firm tannins. Warm south slopes suit Mourvèdre and Cabernet; cooler north slopes grow Sauvignon, Riesling and Pinot Gris. Loess soils over Missoula Flood sediments, Cascades rain shadow, 7 in annual rainfall.

The wine region of Washington

2nd US producer by volume, on the arid, sunny Columbia Valley. Star Cabernet Sauvignon (~60% of reds): powerful and structured with signature notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, dry herbs and graphite, firm tannins. Fleshy, peppery Syrah (black fruits, smoked meat). Round, fruity Merlot, historic mineral Riesling (dry and off-dry), precise Chardonnay and ample Sémillon.

The word of the wine: Prompt bud

A bud that develops in the year of its formation and gives an entrecoeur.
