The wine region of Freisa d'Asti is located in the region of Piémont of Italy. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Tenuta Santa Caterina or the Domaine Marchesi di Barolo produce mainly wines red and sparkling. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Freisa d'Asti are Freisa, Nebbiolo and Cortese, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Freisa d'Asti often reveals types of flavors of non oak, earth or oak and sometimes also flavors of spices, red fruit or black fruit.
In the mouth of Freisa d'Asti is a powerful with a lot of tannins present in the mouth. We currently count 39 estates and châteaux in the of Freisa d'Asti, producing 52 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Freisa d'Asti go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, pasta or lamb.
Most certainly from the Italian Piedmont. It is also found in Argentina. We have noted that this variety has a great resemblance with the nebbiolo, also from the Italian Piedmont. According to genetic analyses published in Switzerland, Freisa is a descendant of Viognier and a half-sister of Rèze.
