Vieux Clocher Estate is a wine estate located in the Southern Rhône, France. Since its creation in 1987, it has been dedicated to producing organic and natural wines with a respect for the environment and the authenticity of the products. The couple formed by Jean and Maria, who retired early from their previous careers and pioneers of organic viticulture in France, began a transformation of the vineyards at the Vieux Clocher Estate for production without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The range of wines from Vieux Clocher Estate is created by a team of talented winemakers and oenologists who work with the utmost care at every stage of the wine-making process. Vieux Clocher Estate mainly produces red wines in which Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault grapes are grown. It also has some white wines, made with the Chardonnay grape and rosé wines made primarily from Grenache grapes. The vineyards of the estate are spread over hundreds of hectares throughout the Southern Rhône, from North Mailloles region, the Luberon region to the South, the land of Sault. The soils consist of pebbles, mixed gravel, red soils, marl, and limestone. The style of the wines from Vieux Clocher Estate is marked by the landscape of the region's soils: in addition to the complex aromas of fresh fruit, flowers, and minerals, there is remarkable finesse and intensity, making them very characteristic wines. Vieux Clocher Estate is committed to promoting sustainable and ecological agriculture and is a member of the Association for Ecological Citizenship and Sustainable Development (ACEDD), which advocates for 100% organic production. Through its philosophy and wine production, Vieux Clocher Estate values the terroir of the Southern Rhône and is dedicated to creating authentic, expressive, and character-full wines.

Discover the grape variety: Roussanne

Roussane is a white grape variety, planted on an area of more than 700 ha. Originally from Montélimar, it is also found in Savoie, Languedoc and Roussillon, and grows very well in calcareous, poor, stony soil. It prefers to be pruned short. Roussane is also called fromenteau, barbin or bergeron. The young leaves are bubbled with fine down. When adult, they become thicker. It flowers in June and matures in mid-September. The grapes are cylindrical in shape, the berries are small and turn red when ripe, and the wine produced from pure Roussane is of extraordinary quality. It has a delicate aroma reminiscent of coffee, honeysuckle, iris and peony. The taste of this wine improves with age. It is part of the blend of the appellations Vin-de-Savoie, Côtes-du-Vallée du Rhône or Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
