Structured, spicy reds with a sustained ruby robe, firm tannins and fresh acidity, with aromas of dark fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), black pepper, spice, liquorice and balsamic notes. Dense palate, good ageing potential. Star of Gaillac AOC on the Tarn terraces (minimum 40% in reds, blended with Braucol and Syrah). Also in IGP Côtes du Tarn. Autochthonous variety of the French South-West, unrelated to the town of Duras (Lot-et-Garonne).

Greek IGP of the Cycladic islands in the Aegean (dark volcanic soils, meltemi winds, hydro-stress, kouloura bush-trained vines on Santorini, >30 m depth): Assyrtiko as world-class signature white — sharp acidity and intense volcanic salinity, candied citrus, white flowers and iodine notes, textured body preserved in the dry climate. Aidani and Athiri as delicate complements. Vinsanto as golden passito. Two major PDOs (Santorini and Paros), IGP 2008.

West Turkish coastal region (Izmir, Manisa, Denizli, Aydin), ~53% of national production, sunny Mediterranean climate. Sultaniye: light and fresh with citrus, apple, melon. Reds: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah dense and sunny (blackcurrant, blackberry, pepper, garrigue, firm tannins) — international varieties that ripen perfectly here.
