The Domaine de Denante is located in the Saône-et-Loire department, in Burgundy, and consists of over 36 hectares of vineyards on the famous and ancient gently sloping hills of the Mâconnais. The vines are harvested on various sun-drenched slopes, bathed by the soft waters of the Saône river nearby. This unique geographical location allows the vines to benefit from a significant supply of moisture and sunshine, thereby producing wines of exceptional quality. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils combined with granites that nourish the vines and influence the aromatic complexity and character of the wines produced. The wines produced at Denante are mainly white wines from grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and red wines such as Givry Clouds, Pinot Noir, and Gamay. The estate also produces sparkling wines, rosés, and fortified wines in the form of sweet wines and others. The winery at Denante estate is known for its environmentally friendly winemaking practices, using eyes and know-how to offer wines that faithfully reflect their terroir. The vines are maintained with biodegradable products and natural mixtures of fertilizer and compost. The wines are then bottled for natural ventilation and cooled to their optimal temperatures for optimal freshness. The Domaine de Denante is no exception and provides quality products. The wines are recorded according to traditional practices, offering products that are true to their terroir and the ancestral wisdom of wine. Tastings and guided tours are offered on the estate, allowing visitors to discover Denante's winemaking heritage.

Discovering the wine region of Mâconnais

The Mâconnais wine region in Southern Burgundy is centred on the provincial town of Mâcon, from which it takes its name. The region produces a considerable amount of wine, specializing in white wines made from Chardonnay and a smaller number of red wines made from Pinot Noir and Gamay. Unlike the Côte d'Or to the North, where a band of densely planted vines runs roughly north-south across the countryside, the vineyards of the Mâconnais are more sparsely planted and interspersed with land devoted to other forms of agriculture. The landscape here is made up of rolling limestone hills, bordered to the east by the Saône River, which flows south to join the Rhône just outside Lyon.

The Climate of the Mâconnais shows signs of its proximity to the Rhône valley, with higher than average temperatures, lower rainfall and - perhaps most importantly - less risk of vine-damaging spring frosts. The southern end of the Mâconnais slightly overlaps the northern boundary of Beaujolais - itself officially Part of the Burgundy wine region, but often treated as a separate region. The title Mâcon covers white, red and rosé wines from the entire region. A number of communes within the appellation's catchment area have been recognized as sources of premium wines and may add their names to the appellation; for example, Mâcon Lugny.
