The Raices Estate is a prestigious vineyard located in the Vinos de Pago region of Spain, which is famous for its unique wine classification status. This area, known for the production of high-quality wines, offers a rich soil and diversified topography that contributes to the complexity and distinction of each bottle produced on this estate. The Raices Estate is nestled within a picturesque landscape, with lush vines stretching across several hectares. These lands are carefully maintained to ensure the vines benefit from the ideal conditions for grape cultivation. It's an estate that combines tradition and innovation, using both time-tested viticulture techniques and modern technologies to guarantee the excellence of their production. What sets the Raices Estate apart is its quality-focused approach rather than quantity. The vineyard’s winemakers deliberately limit production to focus on each vineyard. This allows for the production of wines with great aromatic intensity and revealing the unique characteristics of the Vinos de Pago terroir. The grape varieties grown at the Raices Estate include Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, to name just a few. The estate uses modern winemaking techniques to respect the identity of each grape variety and creates wines that express the best of what the terroir has to offer. The wines of the Raices Estate are often described as elegant and sophisticated, with a full-bodied palate and excellent persistence in the mouth. They are adored for their balance, the beauty of their scent, and their ability to age well. Each of their bottles is a tribute to the exceptional terroir of Vinos de Pago and the tireless efforts of the team to cultivate the best grapes there.

Discovering the wine region of Vinos de Pago

Vinos de Pago, often abbreviated to VP, is a relatively New category of wine classification in Spain. It was introduced in 2003, to cover individual wineries whose wines fell outside the existing DO system (geographically or stylistically) but were nevertheless of consistently high quality. As of 2017, there were more than a dozen VPs, all of which are notable exceptions in regions not generally associated with high quality wines. More than half are in Castilla-La Mancha, and the rest in Navarra and Utiel-Requena.

There is also a confusing association of promotional wineries, Grandes Pagos de Espana. The list of members is not identical, although wineries such as Dominio de Valdepusa of Marqués de Griñon in Toledo and Señorio de Arinzano in Navarre are included in both. The GPE also includes, for example, members such as Martinez Bujanda's Finca Valdpiedra in Rioja, a region that did not participate in the Vinos de Pagos program (Rioja's stance on single-owner appellations along the lines of Grand Cru led to the large producer Artadi's withdrawal from the designation). Vino de Pago estates must be small; the law governing the category states that the area covered by a VP title must not be "equal to or greater than any parish in its region.
