Coloured, fruity reds with a dense purple robe, supple tannins and fresh acidity, showing aromas of black cherry, blackberry, plum, blackcurrant, sweet spices and earthy, slightly foxy notes. Round palate, best drunk young. Very cold- and disease-resistant interspecific variety, driving northern vineyards: Canada (Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia), the US North-East and England. The wine region of Breganze
Veneto DOC on morainic and volcanic hills at the foot of the Vicenza Pre-Alps. Vespaiolo is the signature white king ("wasp grape", indigenous): taut and floral in dry style (green apple, citrus, honey, white flowers), or opulent in Torcolato passito (created 1995) — golden jewel with candied apricot, fig, honey, almond and orange peel. Also broad Tai and Pinot Bianco, round Chardonnay. Supple Merlot, fine Pinot Nero and spicy Marzemino in reds.
The wine region of Veneto
World star of Prosecco: fresh, light Glera sparklers with notes of pear, green apple and white flowers, fruity, convivial bubbles. Veronese reds from Corvina and Rondinella: light, crisp Bardolino, fruity Valpolicella, opulent, concentrated Amarone DOCG (black cherry, chocolate, raisin) from dried grapes. Mineral, almondy Soave (Garganega) whites, fresh Pinot Grigio. 97,500 ha, Italy's largest production.
The word of the wine: Harmonious
Balance of the different organoleptic elements of a wine. This harmony is linked to the typicity of each wine. The sweetness of a sweet wine is an element of its balance, whereas a Sancerre or a Chablis will be asked to be lively and dry.
