Star of Bandol AOC as a single variety and pillar of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas and Costières blends. Also in GSM in Languedoc and Australia. Largest cru of the northern Rhône around Tain: signature Syrah as the exclusive king red - fruity and accessible with notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, raspberry, violet, black pepper and a black-olive touch, supple tannins, more approachable than Hermitage. Marsanne and Roussanne in ample whites (peach, apricot, honey, white flowers, almond). AOC (1937), ~1,700 ha over 11 communes (Drôme), granite on northern slopes, pebble-loess on the plain, ageing 3-8 years.
