The Domaine 4 Monos, located in Madrid, Spain, is an exceptional vineyard that promises an unforgettable wine experience. Possibly translating to "Domain of the Four Monkeys," the wine from this estate is as intriguing as its name suggests. Stretching across a mountain range located northwest of Madrid, Domaine 4 Monos boasts an ideal location for viticulture. The terrain varies from granite to slate, ensuring the production of a wide range of wines. The rugged topography lends a unique character to its wines by influencing the local micro-climatology, which is characterized by dry, hot summers tempered by the cool mountain breeze. In this picturesque setting, four friends, Laura Robles, Javier Garcia, Luis Moreno, and Pablo Rodríguez, founded Domaine 4 Monos in 2010. Conscious of the invaluable wealth that nature offers them, they take pride in respecting the environment and preserving biodiversity. The domain pursues organic viticulture, without pesticides or motorized machines, while practicing traditional winemaking to preserve the authentic aromas and flavors of the wines. Domaine 4 Monos is particularly renowned for its red wines, such as the Tinto de 4 Monos, which features a vibrant and spicy character, derived from the Grenache, Syrah, Cariñena, and Morate grape varieties. The estate also produces white wines, such as the Albillo Real, which seduces with its floral bouquet and fruity taste. When visiting this estate, wine lovers can immerse themselves in the winemaking process, discover the different phases of vine maturation, and above all, taste a variety of exquisite wines.

Discovering the wine region of Madrid

Vinos de Madrid is the DO (Denominación de Origen) title that covers the vineyards around Madrid, the capital of Spain. Located in the heart of the country, Madrid is the second largest city in the European Union. It offers its millions of visitors elaborate architecture, art galleries, a vibrant nightlife and a multitude of fine restaurants that often feature local wines. The sprawling metropolis and the towering Sierra de Guadarrama mountains to the North confine the vineyards to the southeast and southwest corners of the autonomous community of Madrid.

The Vinos de Madrid appellation covers three delimited wine-growing sub-regions, each with its own Particular characteristics. It was granted the coveted DO status in 1990 and a Consejo Regulador (wine authority) was created. Although the region has undoubtedly gained in popularity in recent decades (thanks in part to the efforts of local producers and the popularity of the local Garnacha), this was not the case before. Nevertheless, wine making in this region dates back to at least the 8th century and may well have been introduced by the Romans, or even the Carthaginians before them.
