The Bernabeleva estate is a prestigious vineyard located in San Martin de Valdeiglesias, west of Madrid, in the heart of Spain. With its name meaning "the way of the bear" in ancient Greek, the estate attests to the rich cultural and environmental heritage of this fertile region. The uniqueness of the Bernabeleva estate lies in its ideal geographical location, at the foot of the Gredos Mountains, which provides a unique terroir suitable for viticulture. Its vineyards, mainly composed of Grenache, extend over about 30 hectares of granitic soils. Its slightly altitude location, combined with a continental climate with maritime influences, enables the production of wines with character, offering both freshness, balance and complexity. It was founded in 1923, and has since then preserved a traditional approach to viticulture. Respect for nature is at the heart of its philosophy, and it is committed to biodynamic viticulture, with Ecocert certification. The vines are grown without pesticides or herbicides, and the grapes are handpicked to preserve their quality. Bernabeleva produces high-quality white and red wines, testament to a constant quest for authenticity and terroir expression. Its wines are made from Grenache, accompanied by local grape varieties such as Albillo for whites and Carignan for reds. They are aged in French oak barrels, adding to their character and intensity. Visiting the Bernabeleva estate means discovering a part of Spain's winemaking history and appreciating the subtleties of its unique wines. With the hospitality of the estate and the surrounding charm of the Gredos Mountains, the Bernabeleva estate offers a memorable experience.

Discovering the wine region of Madrid

Vinos de Madrid is the DO (Denominación de Origen) title that covers the vineyards around Madrid, the capital of Spain. Located in the heart of the country, Madrid is the second largest city in the European Union. It offers its millions of visitors elaborate architecture, art galleries, a vibrant nightlife and a multitude of fine restaurants that often feature local wines. The sprawling metropolis and the towering Sierra de Guadarrama mountains to the North confine the vineyards to the southeast and southwest corners of the autonomous community of Madrid.

The Vinos de Madrid appellation covers three delimited wine-growing sub-regions, each with its own Particular characteristics. It was granted the coveted DO status in 1990 and a Consejo Regulador (wine authority) was created. Although the region has undoubtedly gained in popularity in recent decades (thanks in part to the efforts of local producers and the popularity of the local Garnacha), this was not the case before. Nevertheless, wine making in this region dates back to at least the 8th century and may well have been introduced by the Romans, or even the Carthaginians before them.
