The wine region of Atlàntida
Coastal sub-zone of Canelones, Uruguay, on the Río de la Plata, with fresh Atlantic breezes and clay-limestone soils. Tannat is the signature red: deep colour with intense notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, black plum, leather and a cocoa-smoky touch, firm tannins polished by the maritime influence, more approachable than Madiran. Albariño is the signature white — taut and saline with citrus, white flowers and an iodine touch, brilliant acidity. Aromatic Moscatel as complement.
The wine region of Coastal Region
Historical heart of South African viticulture (Wine of Origin 1973) encompassing Stellenbosch, Constantia, Paarl, Franschhoek and Swartland, Mediterranean climate tempered by Atlantic breezes. Cabernet Sauvignon is the signature red: structured with blackcurrant, black cherry, plum, eucalyptus and a smoky touch, firm tannins. Pinotage, the unique local variety, brings dark fruit and mocha. Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc as vibrant whites.
The word of the wine: Burned
Qualifier, sometimes equivocal, of various odors, ranging from caramel to burnt wood.
