Most certainly Portuguese, not to be confused with the Touriga Franca also of the same origin. In Portugal, where it is widely cultivated, it is used to produce, among other things, the famous red Porto. It is also found in Uzbekistan, Australia, South Africa, Cyprus, Spain, etc... very little known in France, although it is listed in the Official Catalogue of A1 vines.

The wine region of Setúbal is located in the region of Península de Setúbal of Portugal. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine José Maria da Fonseca or the Domaine Horácio Simões produce mainly wines red, natural sweet and white. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Setúbal are Touriga nacional, Fernao Pires and Cabernet-Sauvignon, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. The wine region of Península de Setúbal

Setúbal Peninsula (also known as Península de Setúbal) is the Portuguese wine region immediately southeast of Lisbon, across the Tejo estuary. The Terroir in the area ranges from sandy coastal plains to the craggy, limestone-rich Serra Arribida hills. The area is known for its Dry red wines made from Castelão, and for its fortified wines and Sweet Moscatel de Setúbal. The wines produced here are made under three titles: two DOCs, Palmela and Setúbal, and one IGP.

The word of the wine: Presses

The juice that results from pressing the grapes after fermentation. At the end of the maceration, the vats are emptied, the first juice obtained is called the free-run wine and the marc remaining at the bottom of the vat is then pressed to give the press wine. We say more quickly "the presses". Their quality varies according to the vintage and the maceration. A too vigorous extraction releases the tannins of pips and the wine of press can then prove to be very astringent. Often the winemaker raises it separately, deciding later whether or not to incorporate it totally or partially into the grand vin.
