The Domaine Antoine Sunier is a prestigious vineyard located in the picturesque region of Beaujolais, France. Set in a territory historically renowned for its wine culture, it is perfectly integrated into the diverse and fascinating landscape of French viticulture. The property, managed by Antoine Sunier, is located in the communes of Régnié and Morgon. It is within this natural setting that the vineyard passionately and dedicately produces exceptional wines, whilst deeply respecting the environment. Antoine Sunier is indeed a fervent advocate of biodynamic viticulture, refusing the use of chemical products to best preserve the balance of his vines and the quality of his soils. The estate extends over an area of about 5 hectares, mainly planted with Gamay. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, are cultivated on varied soils, mostly granitic, thus offering complexity and uniqueness to its wines. The work is done manually, with whole harvests, rigorously chosen to produce authentic and honest wines. The cellar, meanwhile, illustrates the philosophy of this estate: elegant and simple, it is a reflection of their commitment and respect given to vine and wine. Fermentations are done naturally, the wine is aged in vats and barrels for several months and unfiltered at bottling. The Domaine Antoine Sunier produces two main Beaujolais wines: the Régnié, fresh and fruity, which translates the pure expression of Gamay, and the Morgon, more structured and deep, revealing the potential of the terroirs of this appellation.

Discovering the wine region of Beaujolais

Beaujolais is an important wine region in eastern France, famous for its vibrant, Fruity red wines made from Gamay. It is located immediately South of Burgundy, of which it is sometimes considered a Part, although it is in the administrative region of Rhône. The extensive plantings of Gamay in this region make Beaujolais one of the few regions in the world that is so concentrated on a single Grape variety. Pinot Noir is used in small quantities in red and rosé wines, but in the name of regional identity, it is being phased out and will only be allowed until the 2015 harvest.

Although best known for its red wines, the region also produces white Beaujolais Blanc, from Chardonnay and Aligote. These two white wine varieties are also sometimes used in local red wines, in which they can make up to 15% of the Final blend. There are several forms of Beaujolais red wine: standard Beaujolais (including Beaujolais Supérieur), Beaujolais Villages and the Young, characterful Beaujolais Nouveau. The highest quality wines of the region are those of the ten Beaujolais crus - ten wine regions Long recognized as the best in the region.

Discover the grape variety: Bronner

An interspecific cross between merzling and rondo obtained in 1975 by Norbert Becker of the Freiburg Research Institute in Germany. It has the particularity of having only one gene for resistance to mildew and powdery mildew. However, the I.N.R.A. Bordeaux Sciences Agro has since noted a loss of efficiency on mildew due to a bypass. It can be found in Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Italy, England, etc. It is not very widespread today and is almost unknown in France. It should not be confused with another variety of the same name, which comes from a Pinot Blanc seedling, also obtained in Germany by Johann Philipp Bronner.
