The wine region of Fredericksburg in the Taxas Hill County

Texas AVA, 2nd oldest in the Texas Hill Country (~285 km², 335–610 m, Edwards limestone and Llano Uplift granite, alkaline clay loams on fractured limestone and decomposed granite, AVA 1988): Mourvèdre, Sangiovese and Syrah as Mediterranean-Rhône signature reds — spiced berry notes and lavender on sandy granites. Roussanne as the Rhône white signature with citrusy beeswax, Viognier, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, thermal amplitude preserving acidity.

The wine region of Texas

5th US producer with a Mediterranean style suited to the heat. Signature Tempranillo as red: fleshy and fruity with notes of ripe cherry, plum and sweet spices, round tannins. Also dense Tannat, spicy Mourvèdre, juicy Sangiovese, peppery Syrah. Suited aromatic whites: full Viognier (apricot, flowers), saline Vermentino, lively Albariño.
