The Muga wine estate is a symbol of unparalleled perfection and authenticity in the heart of the prestigious Rioja wine region in Spain. Located in the picturesque town of Haro, this traditional family estate stands out for its production of exceptional wines, dedicated to expressing the deep essence of the Rioja terroir. With an area of 250 hectares of vineyards, Muga perpetuates a winemaking tradition that wonderfully combines modernity and tradition. Each plot is cultivated in accordance with the principles of sustainable agriculture, paying particular attention to respecting the natural balance of the vine. Muga's vineyards benefit from the unique climate of the region, marked by a dual oceanic and continental influence, which gives the grapes perfect maturity and balanced acidity. At the Muga estate, ancestral know-how reigns supreme. The entire winemaking process is carried out by hand, from grape picking to bottling. The wines are aged in oak, made in their own cooperage, a particularity that allows them to maintain control over the quality of the final product. The range of wines produced by Muga is varied and attractive, with each bottle reflecting the soul of the land on which it was grown. From the robust and meaty red mainly made from Tempranillo, to the floral white of Viura, to the fresh and fruity rosé, each wine is unique and distinctive. The Muga estate is also known for its dedication to sustainable viticulture. Their commitment to the environment is evident in every aspect of their production, from the minimal use of insecticides and pesticides to the preservation of a natural habitat around their vineyards. Besides Tempranillo and Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo (Carignan) are also used in Rioja's red wines. Some wineries, notably Marqués de Riscal, use small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. White grapes are planted much less. In 2017, the vineyard area was recorded at 64,215 hectares (158,679 acres).

Carménère is a grape variety of Bordeaux origin. It is the result of a cross between Cabernet Franc and Gros Cabernet. In France, it occupies only about ten hectares, but it is also grown in Chile, Peru, the Andes, California, Italy and Argentina. The leaves of the carmenere are shiny and revolute. Its berries are round and medium-sized. Carménère is susceptible to grey rot, especially in wet autumn. It can also be exposed to the risk of climatic coulure, which is why it is important to grow it on poor soil and in warm areas. Carménère is associated with an average second ripening period. This variety has only one approved clone, 1059. It can be vinified with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It produces a rich, highly coloured wine, which acquires character when combined with other grape varieties.
