The wine region of Nouvelle-Galles du Sud

The New South Wales wine appellation is made up of 16 different regions and covers approximately 810,000 square kilometres (312,000 square miles). This is the Size of the state of New South Wales, one of the six that make up the federal Commonwealth of Australia. Although it is one of the smallest Australian states geographically, it has been the most populous since the first European settlements in the 18th century. The South East Australia GI area is the largest in Australia and can include any wine produced in New South Wales as well as Victoria, Tasmania and Parts of South Australia.

The wine region of Southern New South Wales

Southern New South Wales is an Australian wine zone covering a roughly rectangular area around the capital, Canberra. Stretching for approximately 100 miles (160km) North and south of Canberra, the zone reaches right down to the southern edge of New South Wales, where it meets the eastern edge of Victoria">Victoria. Although not traditionally known as a source of prime Australian wines, the zone is home to some of the country's most promising new wine regions, often producing cooler Climate wines from relatively high altitude Vineyards. As a Young wine region Australia's most popular Grape varieties dominate its vineyard inventory.
