Discover the grape variety: Petit Meslier

Crisp, taut dry whites with a pale golden robe, a slender palate and a razor-sharp acidity of discreet citrus (lemon, grapefruit), green apple, white flowers and chalky mineral notes. Ideal profile for sparkling base wines, adding tension and length. A traditional minor component of Champagne AOC, preserved by growers loyal to historic varieties (arbane, pinot blanc, pinot gris). Rare native Champenois grape.

The wine region of Ruchè

Piedmontese DOCG (Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato, 2010) across 7 communes of the Astigiano Monferrato on marl-limestone hills, continental climate. Ruchè is the exclusive signature red (≥90 %, ~50 ha): aromatic and perfumed with rose, violet, raspberry, cherry and a peppery note, supple tannins and medium acidity, medium body — one of Italy's most exclusive wines. Barbera or Brachetto as minority blending partners. A wine of discovery.

The wine region of Piedmont

Kingdom of Nebbiolo: Barolo and Barbaresco DOCG, long-ageing reds with firm tannins and lively acidity, complex aromas of withered rose, sour cherry, tar, truffle and undergrowth. More accessible, tangy Barbera on red fruit, supple, crisp Dolcetto. Sweet, floral sparkling Moscato d'Asti, mineral, lemony Gavi (Cortese) white, round, almondy Arneis from Roero. 50,000 ha across the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, UNESCO.

The word of the wine: Maceration

Prolonged contact and exchange between the juice and the grape solids, especially the skin. Not to be confused with the time of fermentation, which follows maceration. The juice becomes loaded with colouring matter and tannins, and acquires aromas. For a rosé, the maceration is short so that the colour does not "rise" too much. For white wines too, a "pellicular maceration" can be practised, which allows the wine to acquire more fat.
