The wine region of McGregor
Ward in the Robertson district (Breede River Valley, Western Cape, South Africa) between Langeberg and Riviersonderend, traversed by the Breede: Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as signature whites with mineral profiles; Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling as complements. Alkaline limestone and schist soils with good water retention bring minerality and depth. Very hot summers (30°C, peaks 40°C) as mountain ridges limit sea breezes; cool nights.
The wine region of Western Cape
Cradle of South African wine. Signature Chenin Blanc (Steen, 20%) in ample, fresh whites with notes of quince, yellow apple, honey and acacia flower, from crisp dry to sweet. Sharp, iodised Sauvignon Blanc (Walker Bay, Constantia), balanced Chardonnay. Reds: emblematic Pinotage with roasted aromas (coffee, plum, smoke), firm Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy Syrah.
The word of the wine: Fleshed out
A full-bodied, tasty and fleshy wine, with velvety and smooth tannins.
