Self-proclaimed world capital of Zinfandel (>40% of premium Californian production): old-vine red king (plantings from 1888) — opulent and jammy with notes of blackberry, plum, raspberry, pepper, liquorice and a tobacco touch, coated tannins. Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot, Tempranillo, Albariño, Barbera and Primitivo in the palette (>100 grapes). Viognier and Chardonnay in whites. A white grape variety resulting from the hybridization of the folle blanche and the noah. It is the only hybrid to remain authorized in a French appellation vineyard, that of Armagnac, where it thrives in particular on the tawny sands of Bas-Armagnac. When distilled, its wine produces round, smooth and aromatic eaux-de-vie with hints of ripe fruit.
