Discovering the wine region of Chablis

Chablis is a historic town and wine region in NorthCentralFrance. It produces light, Dry white wines, renowned for their minerality and lively Acidity. AOC Chablis wines are produced exclusively from the Chardonnay grape. The wines of Chablis are made in a rather different style from those produced elsewhere in Burgundy.

They are drier and fresher, rather than heavier and more Aromatic. Most basic Chablis is fermented and aged in stainless steel, with the use of oak barrels being more common for the top wines, although large used barrels are more likely to be used than New ones, and the wines spend less time in them than in Côte d'Or. The town and its vineyards are located a considerable distance (over 100 kilometers) northwest of the main wine regions of Burgundy, from the Côte de Nuits to the Maconnais. They are actually closer to Sancerre (Loire) and Les Riceys (southern Champagne) and to the city of Paris.

Most certainly Portuguese. It is said to be the result of a cross between the mourisco de semente and the touriga nacional, which should not be confused with it. It can be found in Australia, South Africa, the United States (California), etc. and is virtually unknown in France.

Burgundy 2020 releases tap into ‘insatiable’ global demand

Liv-ex said the trade ‘is reporting strong sales’ of Burgundy 2020 wines following the first en primeur releases in recent weeks, despite higher prices. Decanter’s Charles Curtis MW rated Côte d’Or reds and whites highly in his Burgundy 2020 overview, published earlier this month. Liv-ex’s new Burgundy report also suggested that getting hold of some wines has become even more difficult. ‘The trade continues to report an insatiable global buying appetite that has led to reduced alloca ...

Over the past few years I’ve been working on creative combinations to find the pe ...

Walls’ hidden gems: Mas de Libian, Ardèche

Our feet crunched through layers of dry oak leaves as we climbed a pebbly path towards the vineyards behind the farmhouse. Roots go deep here. Not just the tall oaks and squat vines, but families too. I walked the vineyards at Mas de Libian with Hélène Thibon, but it was her father Jean-Pierre that greeted me when I arrived. Hélène’s sister Catherine was out front with Bambi the horse, ploughing the sandier plots. Later, we tasted in the winery with Hélène’s son Aurélien. Three generations of a ...

The word of the wine: Oxidation

Alteration of the wine caused by prolonged contact with oxygen and resulting in a coppery colour with brown reflections and the appearance of typical aromas reminiscent of rancid nuts.
