Supple and moreish reds with a deep ruby colour, melted tannins and a round palate, on intense aromas of ripe red cherry (hence its name, ciliegio = cherry tree), raspberry, plum, violet and sweet spices. Fresh acidity, best drunk young or for short ageing. Vinified as a single variety in Maremma Toscana DOC, Lazio and Umbria, and blended with Sangiovese (of which it may be the genetic parent). The wine region of Vin de France

The freest category of French wine, the playground of winemakers working outside the AOC. All styles combined: fruity reds, lively or ambitious whites, everyday rosés, unusual blends, natural wines, atypical grapes (Petit Manseng in Languedoc, Riesling in Provence), experimental winemaking (skin-contact whites, no sulphur). Grape and vintage labelling allowed, no geographic constraint. From the pop, convivial cuvée to the artisan gem: freedom in a bottle.

The word of the wine: Oxidation

Alteration of the wine caused by prolonged contact with oxygen and resulting in a coppery colour with brown reflections and the appearance of typical aromas reminiscent of rancid nuts.
