Located in the lush heart of the famed Médoc vineyard, the Château Saint-Hilaire wine estate is an emblematic site of French wine tradition. Spanning 41 hectares, this family estate has been in existence for over two centuries and remains an architectural masterpiece steeped in history, having hosted the lives of winegrowers and wines throughout generations. Château Saint-Hilaire, rich in the authenticity of its terroir, produces high-quality Médoc appellation wines. The vines are planted in clay-limestone soil and consist of the typical grape varieties of this region: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. Each year, they are carefully cultivated using traditional and environmental methods, to produce grapes loaded with flavor and nuances. For a Saint-Hilaire wine, the harvest period is crucial, conducted with care and precision to select the best grapes. Subsequently, the grapes are delicately vinified in the estate's old cellars, between stone walls laden with history, where the signs of time and vine work are still visible. Château Saint-Hilaire also offers tastings and tours of the estate, providing visitors with an immersive vineyard life experience. You will have the opportunity to walk along the vineyard paths, visit the vat room, the barrel cellar, and of course, taste the estate's wines, with their complex aromas and long persistence on the palate, emblematic of the prestigious Médoc terroirs. Combining a passion for wine and respect for the earth, Château Saint-Hilaire is a true symbol of the grandeur and diversity of the French vineyard. More than just a wine, it's a story, a heritage, and an experience to share.

Discovering the wine region of Médoc

Bordeaux's Médoc is an area of coastal lagoons, sand dunes and pine forests located on the 45th parallel. It is also a global wine powerhouse, and home to four of the world's most prestigious wine villages: Pauillac, Margaux, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien. The estates located in these villages produce some of the most expensive bottles in the world. The region has also provided all but one of the châteaux included in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification (Haut-Brion).

The Médoc vineyards cover about 16,000 hectares, including the various small appellations. Approximately 5500 hectares of vines are classified for the production of AOC/AOP Médoc wines. Wedged between the Atlantic coast and the wide Gironde estuary, the Médoc is in fact a peninsula. It stretches 80 kilometres (50 miles) to the northwest, from the city of Bordeaux to the Pointe de Grave.

The word of the wine: Muscat blanc à petits grains

A white grape variety cultivated since antiquity on the shores of the Mediterranean, it is considered the noblest of the muscats. It is mainly used to make sweet wines, often from mutage. In France, it is the sole variety used in many natural sweet wines: muscat-de-frontignan, muscat-de-mireval, muscat-de-lunel, muscat-de-saint-jean-de-minervois, muscat-de-beaumes-de-venise, muscat-du-cap-corse. Combined with Muscat d'Alexandrie, it gives Muscat-de-Rivesaltes. It is also used to make sparkling white wines (clairette-de-die; moscato d'asti and asti spumante in Italy) and dry wines (alsace-muscat). Powerfully aromatic and complex, its wines evoke fresh grapes, roses, exotic fruits, citrus fruits and spices.
