The Château Léoville Las Cases (LLC) is a renowned viticultural estate of two hundred arpents in Saint-Julien in Bordeaux, France. Located on the "Second Coasts" and rated as a First Growth in the 1855 Classification, the vineyard produces impactful wines that perfectly illustrate the wonders of the region's terroir. This majestic chateau is easily recognizable from a distance: its grey and medium orange stone walls stand out against the horizon, making it very recognizable. A member of the Luynes Family, LLC was acquired by Jean-Baptiste Léonardi in 1836 and earned its letters patent in 1866. Once acquired, he made the choice to develop the region's terroir by employing preferred viticulturalists to work the land. The Château is surrounded by very high enclosure walls that protect its property, and is distinguished by a superb main house and remnants of the old chapel on its lands. A large wine cellar stands to the east of the house and constitutes the storage place for the fine vintages produced by Léoville Las Cases. The main house bears witness to the long viticultural history of the place, originally dating back to the 17th century. In 1999, LLC was renovated, which allowed it to welcome visitors. To top it all off, the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux nurtures two of its cuvées to perfection: the Leoville Las Cases and the Cabernet Sauvignon, both of which have been awarded multiple times by international critics and guides. LLC is committed to maintaining the quality standards of the wines it produces. The wines produced here are both exciting and subtle, making it a highly prized wine among wine enthusiasts.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
