Fleshy Syrah (blackcurrant, violet, black pepper), dense Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan in support. In the north, racy, deep Syrah solo. Opulent Viognier whites (Condrieu, apricot, flowers) and ample Marsanne-Roussanne. Southern: sun-soaked Grenache blends at Châteauneuf, Gigondas, Vacqueyras (candied fruit, garrigue).
