DOC of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in the province of Udine facing the Marano lagoon, alluvial plain near the Adriatic. Friulano is the signature native white: dry and ample with floral and fruity aromas (apple, peach, apricot) and a characteristic bitter-almond finish, long. Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Malvasia Istriana as complements. Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso as the signature red with ripe red fruits, herbs and a slightly bitter finish.
The wine region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Italian benchmark of great whites of elegance and minerality. Emblematic Friulano with notes of fresh almond, pear and white flowers, taut Ribolla Gialla, precise Pinot Grigio, lively Sauvignon and balanced Chardonnay. Rare sweet Picolit (DOCG), saline Malvasia Istriana. Rising reds: fruity spicy Refosco, more tannic Pignolo and Schioppettino.
The word of the wine: Garrigue
Notes reminiscent of aromatic Mediterranean herbs such as thyme or rosemary, found in many southern wines.
