A very old grape variety found mainly in Catalonia (Spain), in the regions of Conca de Barbera and Costers del Segre, and also in the Balearic Islands, Murcia, Valencia, etc. It is said to be related to the white heben and has no link with the white trepat of Priorat. The wine region of Marche
Marche (or Le Marche; pronounced Mar-kay) is a region in eastern CentralItaly. It is most associated with white wines made from Trebbiano and Verdicchio grapes. Marche occupies a roughly triangular area. Its longer sides are formed by the Apennine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east.
The word of the wine: Pinot meunier
Cultivated in the 19th century in all the northern vineyards, this black grape variety has largely regressed since. Very present in the Marne valley, it constitutes a third of the vineyards in Champagne, alongside pinot noir and chardonnay with which it is often blended. It brings roundness and red and yellow fruit aromas to champagnes. Pinot meunier is also the dominant grape variety in red and rosé wines in the Orleans AOC and the rare Touraine-Noble-Joué, a grey wine. Syn.: meunier.
