The wine region of Torgiano
Historic Umbrian DOC (1968) south of Perugia, rolling terroirs around Torgiano. Sangiovese signature in red (≥50%): ruby robe, elegant cherry, raspberry, plum and floral-spice notes, fine tannins and freshness. Canaiolo, Trebbiano Toscano and Ciliegiolo as complements. The Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG (1990), with superb ageing, is the emblem of Lungarotti (Rubesco).
The wine region of Umbria
"Green heart" of Italy, cradle of Sagrantino: exceptional tannic red in Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, dense and concentrated with notes of blackberry, candied plum, liquorice, spice and leather, powerful tannins and long ageing. Suppler Sangiovese in blends, Cabernet and Merlot in Torgiano DOCG. Orvieto whites based on Grechetto and Trebbiano, full and almondy, from dry to sweet Muffato. ~13,000 ha between Tuscany and Lazio.
The word of the wine: Ventilate
Expose the wine to the air before serving, to allow it to open up more, to develop its aromas and to round out its tannins.
