The wine region of Wisconsin

Wisconsin is a Midwestern state located on the western shore of Lake Michigan. Although wine making dates back to the mid-19th century, Wisconsin's wine industry is small and focuses primarily on cold-hardy Hybrid varieties developed specifically for the colder Climates of the Northern half of North America. Valiant, Edelweiss, La Crosse and Frontenac are among the most widely planted varieties in Wisconsin vineyards. Wisconsin covers 170,000 km², between latitudes 42°N and 47°N.

A 50-year-old Brora distilled in 1972 fetched £320,000, with the Highland single malt poured into a long, thin 1.5-l ...

Chivas on Islay

Chivas – the Scotch whisky arm of drinks giant Pernod Ricard – said today that the new plant would ‘round out its offering of globally recognised malts and blends, which include The Glenlivet, Royal Salute, Chivas Regal and Ballantine’s’. The distillery, which will focus on making a classically Islay style of smoky, peated single malt, will be located at Gartbreck Farm, west of Bowmore at Saltpan Point on the shore of Loch Indaal, with ‘stunning views’ across the loch to Bruichladdich and Port C ...

The word of the wine: Rootstock

American vine on which a French vine is grafted. This is the consequence of the phylloxera that destroyed the vineyard at the end of the 19th century: after much trial and error, it was discovered that the "pest" spared the roots of the American vines, and the technique became widespread.
