AVA (2013, 9,100 acres, 900 planted) in Lake County (California) between volcanic mountains and alluvial plain: signature Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel in reds, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc as complements. Vines up to 500 m altitude, mainly north-east facing. Red volcanic soils from ancient pyroclastic flows. Strong day-night temperature swings at altitude — slow ripening, fruit-acid balance signature.
