The wine region of Krasnodar
Russia's major vineyard on the Black Sea (40% of national vineyards), climate tempered by the sea, chernozem and clay-limestone soils. Signature Saperavi as red king (Georgian teinturier): deep and powerful with black blackberry, cherry, plum, liquorice, leather and spice, firm tannins. Firm Cabernet, supple Merlot. Whites: lively Rkatsiteli (apple, citrus), taut Riesling, ample Chardonnay.
