The wine region of Middle Rio Grande Valley

New Mexico AVA (1988) on the Rio Grande altiplano (1,500-2,000 m), semi-arid climate with cool nights preserving acidity, heritage of Franciscan monks (1629, oldest US vineyard). Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Zinfandel as signature reds — full-bodied with intense dark fruits, cherry, plum and a spicy-peppery note, round tannins and altitude freshness. Syrah, opulent Viognier and crisp Riesling as complements. Pioneer desert identity.

The wine region of New Mexico

Wine state of the American Southwest, the oldest in the USA (vines from 1629). World specialty: signature traditional-method sparklings (pioneer house Gruet) with signature notes of green apple, brioche, citrus, white flowers and a hazelnut touch, fine taut bubbles. Also sun-drenched high-altitude reds: dense Cabernet Sauvignon (cassis, cedar), jammy Zinfandel, spicy peppery Syrah. High-altitude desert vineyards with strong diurnal swings.

The word of the wine: Saignée (rosé de)

Rosé wine made from a vat of black grapes after a short maceration period.
