Fine ageing potential. The absolute star of Santorini PDO on the volcanic soils of the Cyclades (vines trained in kouloura baskets to protect against wind). Now exported to Australia, California and South Africa. Native Greek variety.

Greek PGI between western Attica and Boeotia (Erythres area and Boeotia prefecture, cool slopes of Mount Kithairon, temperate continental climate, qualitative renaissance). Mouchtaro is the local native flagship red — dark concentrated berries and measured tannins. Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah as cool-climate reds with taut acidity, Malagousia as an aromatic white with floral and tropical fruit notes. A revival challenging the Savatiano and Roditis of Retsina country.
