An intraspecific cross between Müller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe obtained in 1948 by Hans Breider (1908-1960) at the Bavarian Research Station for Viticulture and Horticulture in Veitsnöchheim (Germany). Almost unknown in France, it can be found in Germany, Belgium, England, the United States and Canada. Its early maturity and muscatel taste have sometimes led to it being offered as a table grape on market stalls.

The wine region of Coteaux du Giennois

The Coteaux-du-Giennois AOC is located in the Centre-Loire sub-region. The 200 hectare VineyardLies on two distinct soils separated by the "Cosne fault". To the North, the soils are composed of clay, silica and sometimes limestone, they are located in the area from Briare to Gien. To the South, the vineyards are located on white earth and clots, with siliceous deposits in places.

The Loire Valley is a key wine region in western France. Grenache is a black grape variety that originated in Spain and is one of the great quality varieties of southern France. Sometimes vinified on its own, it is most often blended with one or more other Rhone or southern grape varieties with complementary qualities such as Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan or Cinsault. Its wines are warm, with aromas of red fruits (cherry) and spices; they oxidize with time. Vinified alone or in very large proportions, Grenache Noir also makes great natural sweet wines in Roussillon (Rivesaltes, Banyuls, Maury) and in the Rhône Valley (Rasteau).
