The wine region of Collina del Milanese
Lombardy IGT (1995) on the airy hills south of Milan across Milan, Lodi and Pavia provinces (San Colombano al Lambro, Graffignana), well-drained territory in the Po plain. Indigenous Verdea is the signature white: dry and lively with citrus, green apple, white flowers and almond hints; also sweet Passito. Riesling, Malvasia, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco offer fresh whites. Barbera, Croatina, Cabernet and Merlot provide fleshy reds with balanced tannins.
The wine region of Lombardia
Three poles. Franciacorta DOCG, Italy's answer to Champagne: elegant brioche traditional-method sparklers (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc), fine bubble and mineral profile. Alpine Valtellina: Nebbiolo (alias Chiavennasca) with fine tannins and red fruits, powerful Sforzato passito. Oltrepò Pavese: fresh Pinot Noir and fruity-sparkling Bonarda.
The word of the wine: New wine
Wine of the year, fruity and easy to drink. Beaujolais Nouveau is not the only one in this category, the Côtes-du-Rhône, Touraine and Gaillac appellations also produce new wines.
