Interspecific cross between the white bacchus and the white Villard obtained in 1964 by Gerhardt Erich Alleweldt (1927/2005) at the Geilweilerhof Station in Siebeldingen, Germany. It should be noted that the sirius and the staufer were also born from these same parents. Phoenix is little known even in France, although it is registered in the Official Catalogue of varieties of table grapes on the A2 list.

The wine region of Provence
Provence is a wine region in the far southeast of France, best known for the quality (and quantity) of its rosé wines and for its Warm, mild Climate. The modernization that is taking place in many of the traditional wine regions of southern France has not yet taken place to the same extent in Provence, but there are Clear signs of change. The wines of Bordeaux (based on Cabernet and Merlot) are full of tannins, those of Burgundy much less so, with Pinot Noir containing little.
