Grand Cru of Gueberschwihr in Haut-Rhin (~45 ha, 230-330 m, east-south-east, slopes up to 60%, unique Alsace substratum of marine oolitic limestone with marl and gravel): Gewurztraminer dominant signature white — intense spiced and exotic fruit profile. Muscat equally outstanding, soil-variety affinity recognised universally. Riesling and Pinot Gris as complements, warm dry Foehn wind.
The wine region of Alsace
Capital of great French aromatic whites, most often dry and single-varietal. Straight, mineral Riesling (lemon, gunflint), opulent, exuberant Gewurztraminer (lychee, rose, spices), round, smoky Pinot Gris, floral, crisp Muscat, supple Pinot Blanc. Fine, fruity Crémants d'Alsace, exceptional sweet Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles. 15,500 ha at the foot of the Vosges on varied soils, 51 Grands Crus since 1975.
The word of the wine: Maturation
Transformation undergone by the grape when it is enriched with sugar and loses some of its acidity to reach maturity.
