The wine region of Colli di Luni
DOC straddling Liguria and Tuscany, coastal hills around Massa and La Spezia, Carrara marbles as backdrop. Vermentino is the signature white king (min. 90%): taut and aromatic with pear, green apple, basil, sage, almond and saline iodine touch — less herbaceous than its northern Ligurian cousins, lighter than in Sardinia, marked minerality from the rock. Supple Sangiovese and Canaiolo reds in complement.
The wine region of Liguria
Coastal region of northwest Italy on the Riviera, terraced vineyards among the steepest in Europe (~1,650 ha). Vermentino signature in white: fresh and saline with signature notes of citrus, white flowers, wild herbs, fresh almond and an iodine mineral touch, taut long mouth. Local Pigato similar and ample, mineral Bosco (min. 40% in Cinque Terre), Albarola.
The word of the wine: Reduced
This is said of aromas that are reminiscent of a stale wine and that can be released when a long-closed bottle is opened. They generally fade with airing.
