The Château La Gorce is located at the northern end of the Médoc, just a few kilometers south of the city of Bordeaux, where one of the most famous and prestigious French vineyards is found. This wine estate comprises 80 hectares of vineyards, of which 73 are dedicated to the production of AOC Médoc, as well as AOC Haut-Médoc and AOC Listrac-Médoc. The soils of this estate are primarily composed of gravel, sand and limestone, which offer ideal conditions for producing the finest wines. The Château La Gorce, dating back to 1771, is surrounded by small rocky hills and bathed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Centuries-old mulberry trees are planted throughout the property, providing a beautiful landscape, and the charm of historical buildings adds to its beauty and intimate character. The cellar master and manager of this business is Jean-Jacques Carles, who heads the family that has managed the estate for several generations. The vines of the Château La Gorce are the result of traditional and modern cultivation methods, and are formed on the most recent techniques. The Château La Gorce produces rich, complex and typically Médoc red wines, which display a significant concentration of tannins and are balanced by excellent maturity. Among its specialties are the Classic Médoc and the Classic Haut-Médoc, both of which are made from Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate's white wines, on the other hand, are made from Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle and are very fruity and balanced. The Château La Gorce is certified in Organic Agriculture and is recognized for the quality of its wines. To overcome all the uncertainties that accompany wine production, the Château works according to a process that combines consistency and rigor to produce wines of exceptional quality, which are the fruit of ancient know-how.

Discovering the wine region of Médoc

Bordeaux's Médoc is an area of coastal lagoons, sand dunes and pine forests located on the 45th parallel. It is also a global wine powerhouse, and home to four of the world's most prestigious wine villages: Pauillac, Margaux, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien. The estates located in these villages produce some of the most expensive bottles in the world. The region has also provided all but one of the châteaux included in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification (Haut-Brion).

The Médoc vineyards cover about 16,000 hectares, including the various small appellations. Approximately 5500 hectares of vines are classified for the production of AOC/AOP Médoc wines. Wedged between the Atlantic coast and the wide Gironde estuary, the Médoc is in fact a peninsula. It stretches 80 kilometres (50 miles) to the northwest, from the city of Bordeaux to the Pointe de Grave.
