The wine region of Dodecanese
Greek PGI (1990) covering Rhodes and the Dodecanese archipelago in the Aegean Sea, Mediterranean climate with iodine breezes. Native Athiri as the signature white: crisp notes of citrus, white flowers, stone fruits and a saline-marine touch, fine acidity. Mineral Assyrtiko, aromatic Malagouzia and fragrant Moschato as white complements. Native Mandilaria as the signature red: deep colour, tannic and structured with dark fruits, garrigue and a spicy touch.
The wine region of Aegean Sea
West Turkish coastal region (Izmir, Manisa, Denizli, Aydin), ~53% of national production, sunny Mediterranean climate. Sultaniye: light and fresh with citrus, apple, melon. Bornova Misketi: aromatic and floral (rose, honey). Reds: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah dense and sunny (blackcurrant, blackberry, pepper, garrigue, firm tannins) — international varieties that ripen perfectly here.
The word of the wine: Liqueur wine
Unfermented must with added brandy, also called liqueur wine: Pineau des Charentes, Floc de Gascogne, Macvin du Jura, Ratafia, Cartagène du Languedoc.
